Development Squad

The Team

Ripon RUFC will this season take a step forward with its first development squad. The squad is formed from this year's Under 17's as well as some new Under 18's to the club. Those players that are eligible will represent Ripon in the Yorkshire Under 17 league where Ripon has been seeded in division 2.

The squad will receive excellent coaching from an experienced team headed up by Brendan Hurley. Brendan has worked with this current squad from Under 7’s with several players having played all the way through. The coaching team has undergone some changes to recognise the step up to league rugby and the move towards senior playing. Former first team player James “Sid” Watson joins us as he turns his hand to developing a talented backline. There are two further new additions in the shape of Lawrence Black who brings considerable experience of coaching at club and district level and Andy Rickard who adds his knowledge from schools, clubs, district and county rugby. Andy Cook will add support through match day statistics and analysis. Pete Coyne and David Harrison will share the match day managerial responsibilities.

Squad training takes place at Mallorie Park on Tuesdays at 7.00pm and new players are always welcome along.

We are committed to developing the ability of our players individually and collectively and nurturing talent for the club's senior sides and have plans in place to progressively introduce this squad to the rigours of senior rugby. In order to make that transition easier the squad is now treated as one of the club’s senior sides.
